Interpretation: Aristotle and Thomas Paine may be of reference (many renditions stay with the ■→Medieval canon as accepted by Thomas Aquinas, where εἰδέναι ὀρέγονται φύσει is presented as natura scire desiderant, and γνωρίζειν rendered with the Latin cognoscere; the poetic context above would be independent). The main problem with Aquinas would be his division into actuality and potentiality: it does not cover human thought; if I really think something, it does not mean I do a thing, as gesticulate; a thought is real, though it is not only a potential (to think), and it is not an act.
